Faculty of Social Sciences at HKU and the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at Peking University (PKU) Sign MOU to Advance Research Collaboration in Psychology and Cognitive Science, and related interdisciplinary fields

The Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at Peking University (PKU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen academic exchange and research collaboration in psychology, cognitive science, and related interdisciplinary fields.

The agreement builds on the successful Beijing-Hong Kong Psychology Academic Exchange Programme held at PKU in May 2026, which brought together faculty members and students from PKU, HKU, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During the programme, HKU and PKU established a shared vision for deepening research collaboration and supporting joint academic initiatives.

Under the MOU, the two institutions will form joint research teams and collaborate on competitive funding applications, with a particular focus on the National Natural Science Foundation of China–Research Grants Council (NSFC-RGC) Joint Research Scheme. The partnership will also promote academic seminars, research visits, and postgraduate student exchanges.

To support the implementation of the collaboration, a Joint Working Committee will be established to coordinate activities and identify new opportunities for research cooperation. The five-year agreement was signed by Professor Ming Wen, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKU, and Professor Yanchao Bi, Dean of the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at PKU.

The MOU marks a significant milestone in advancing sustained and impactful research collaboration between HKU and PKU. By leveraging their complementary strengths and fostering closer academic exchange, the two institutions aim to contribute to internationally leading research on the human mind and behaviour while addressing pressing challenges facing society.
